Balboa Island is a one-of-a-kind community in Newport Beach, California with its bay access, coastal shops, beach fashions, charming restaurants, and fresh seafood. This man-made island has some of North America’s most expensive real estate.
This community is made up of three artificial islands that were modified and attached by one and two lane bridges. On the northeast side there is also a fleet of ferry boats that take residents and visitors back and forth across the harbor. Despite the smaller lots and dense neighborhood this island is very desirable to homeowners.
You’ll find many charming cottages and nautically decorated homes on Balboa Island which has several associations that work towards maintaining and improving the community. Many people who work or live on the island are members of The Balboa Island Improvement Association. Many merchants sponsor the Business Improvement District on Marine Avenue and home owners often belong to The Little Balboa Island Association. Residents enjoy the feeling of this community that comes together for the benefit of all.
There are many highly ranked facilities provided by The Newport Mesa Unified School District including Abraham Lincoln Elementary, Corona Del Mar High School, and Mariners Elementary. Parents can also choose one of several private schools like Our Lady Queen of Angels, Carden Hall, Sage Hill, St. Andrews Presbyterian Preschool, and Newport Christian School.
There are so many things to do on Balboa Island which even has famous desserts like the Frozen Banana and Balboa Bar. The popular treats were even a topic for “Arrested Development”, a hit TV show. There are some amazing restaurants like Wilma’s Patio Restaurant, Ciao Italian Restaurant, and Amelia’s Balboa Island. The water provides opportunities for many activities including sport fishing, whale watching, standup paddle boarding, and Sea Doo riding. You can experience parasailing or an inflatable boat coastal adventures. Marine Avenue is lined with eclectic shops owned by local residents.
